Sebastian Copeland is an award winning explorer, photographer, and author.

With more than 8,000 kilometers on skis across the Arctic Sea, and the Greenland and Antarctica ice sheets, Sebastian has reached both poles on foot, and earned four world records in the process.

A recipient of the 2007 IPA’s Photographer of the Year award for his first book, Antarctica: The Global Warning, Sebastian’s photos have appeared in hundreds of publications worldwide, including National Geographic, Men’s Journal and the New York Times. His fine art prints have been seen in museums and galleries globally.

Sebastian returns to the Annenberg Space for Photography to present his award winning film Into The Cold--A Journey of the Soul. The film chronicles his and partner Keith Heger’s harrowing North Pole expedition in sub-zero temperatures to commemorate the centennial of Admiral Peary's first reach in 1909. Widely thought to be the toughest on Earth, the North Pole is a journey of endurance and commitment into the depth of the soul against the backdrop of the magnificent, unforgiving and rapidly vanishing Great North. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and went on to win awards internationally.

Following the screening, Sebastian will answer questions about the more exacting aspects of filming and photographing in freezing environments; and the reasons that compel him to push his limits to bring back narratives from the Earth’s most antagonistic regions.
